How long should a sales video be?
Cold: under a minute. Quotes: about 90 seconds. Demos and walkthroughs: under five minutes, ideally in short snippets. Finish before they do.
- Sales video
- Playbook
- Outreach
There is no universal “perfect length.” There is a length that matches how much attention you have earned. If the topic is bigger than five minutes, split it. Do not drown them.
Suggested lengths
| Job | Aim for | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Cold outreach | 30 to 60 seconds | They did not ask for this. Respect that. |
| Video quote / estimate | 60 to 90 seconds | Scope + price + next step. |
| Follow-up after a meeting | 45 to 90 seconds | Recap + one ask. |
| Proposal / buying committee | 2 to 4 minutes | Enough story; still under five. |
| Demo / product walkthrough | 3 to 5 minutes max | Only if they already care. Prefer shorter clips. |
Micro-learning beats the information dump
One eight-minute “everything about us” video is how watch rates die. Three focused clips (problem, proof, how it works) are easier to finish and easier to advance with a multi-step sequence. Same story, served in bites.
- One idea per video
- One next-step button per page
- Only send the next snippet to people who watched the last one
Signs it is too long
- It crosses five minutes and you are still “setting context”
- You explain your company history before their problem
- Watch depth dies in the first 20% on every send
- You could delete a middle minute and nothing important disappears
Signs it is too short
- They still email “what’s included?” after watching
- The price appears with zero context
- There is no clear next step on the page or in the talk track
Length is not the only lever
A 40-second video on a messy file link loses to a tight three-minute demo on a clean Share Page with one button. Packaging and tracking matter as much as the stopwatch.
Record tight. Host properly. Check who watched. If people drop at minute two, cut the clip or split the topic. Do not “add more explanation.”
